Ambrosius Ruwindrijarto

Ambrosius Ruwindrijarto has been campaigning against illegal logging for more than 15 years. In 2012, his many years of defending the country’s forests was honored by the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation, who said Ruwi was recognized “for his sustained advocacy for community-based natural resource management in Indonesia, leading bold campaigns to stop illegal forest exploitation as well as fresh social enterprise initiatives that engage the forest communities.”

In 1997, he founded the wildlife protection group, Telapak, which continues to fight illegal timber operations and promote the sustainable management of 200,000 hectares of forest. He will look at the big problems still facing Indonesia but also some of the small victories in his talk “Saving Indonesia’s Forests One Village At A Time.”
